RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD...Selasphorus rufus

Male Rufous hummingbirds are the first to return to southern Vancouver Island in spring - sometimes arriving in March. At Goldstream Provincial Park near Victoria, B.C., these fearless birds aggressively stake-out individual territories in the Salmonberry Patches. Other male hummers are driven off on sight. These "bullies" will even hassle much larger birds!
